Founded in 2006, Upstate Circle of Friends expands and enhances opportunities for at-risk children and their families.
So many of our Greenville County, SC African American Seniors go hungry each and every day. The need is great. Ms. Peggy Baxter, a community senior herself, recognized the need directly through her various volunteer roles, and she set out to do something about it. It started with talking to whoever would listen. In turn, she listened to others as well, and realized the African American businesses were also struggling with this pandemic. Through her effort, a coalition was formed with the nonprofit Upstate Circle of Friends, Long Branch Baptist Church, the NAACP, and African American restaurants OJís Diner and Fhinney Buffet #2. Together this program was created to assure two nutritious meals prepared by Upstate Circle of Friends Food Service, OJís Diner, and Fhinney Buffet #2 to be delivered to identified senior citizens battling through the COVID-19 pandemic on extremely limited incomes, using local volunteers to deliver meals daily through December 31, 2020.
Through the Greenville County CARES ACT, the coalition received funding to provide meals to 100 identified African American seniors. But the need is great, and more support is required.
Please help assure more Greenville County seniors in need receive daily hot nutritious meals by making a donation through Upstate Circle of Friends website, http://ucfgreenville.org.
While this program is beginning September 1, 2020 at capacity, if you or a senior citizen you are aware of is in dire need, please email that seniorís information to George@UCFGreenville.org to be placed on a waiting list, and as additional funding is secured Nutrition with Heart will be adding seniors to this program.
Together we will make the difference and strengthen our communities by reaching and engaging our seniors in need while providing Nutrition with Heart.Donate Here View Survey
