Nutrition with Heart for African American Seniors in Need
So many of our Greenville County, SC African American Seniors go hungry each and every day. The need is great. Ms. Peggy Baxter, a community senior herself, recognized the need directly through her various volunteer roles, and she set out to do something about it. It started with talking to whoever would listen. In turn, she listened to others as well, and realized the African American businesses were also struggling with this pandemic. Through her effort, a coalition was formed with the nonprofit Upstate Circle of Friends, Long Branch Baptist Church, the NAACP, and minority restaurants OJ's Diner and Fhinney Buffet #2. Together this program was created to assure nutritious hot meals prepared by Upstate Circle of Friends Food Service, OJ's Diner, and Fhinney Buffet #2 to be delivered to identified senior citizens battling through the COVID-19 pandemic on extremely limited incomes, using local volunteers to deliver meals daily from September 1 thru December 31, 2020.
